Used to be awesome until Ziggy died and new management took over. Same name but culture and location changed, now it's more jazz like a suburban bar and grill with corn-hole on the patio. C-
Baba Ghannouj is a hidden gem in the tangle of bad restaurants near 54 & 55. It does a brisk business at lunchtime, which means the cooks are always refilling the buffet line with freshly cooked food. The cuisine is Mediterranean and the highlights include the lamb with tzatziki sauce, the humus, and the curried chicken. There are plenty of vegetarian options, too. They are currently offering a lunch special of a "cheese-steak" (in a pita) with fries and a drink for $6.
have spent many, many hundreds of dollars here over the last 10 years. The food is truly special, from the deli salads, to the condiment bar (garlic paste! Load up!) to the astonishingly good bread. But I'm not going back - ever. The service is truly atrocious. I had lunch today with my wife and son. We ordered a fadayer (pizza-like baked pie, really good) to split, while my son had souvlaki. the fadayer showed up, and - after 5 minutes of no souvlaki, we asked- what gives? The dish had been served to an adjacent table, where it had been promptly eaten! The server said he'd rush an order for us - and it took 30 MINUTES to arrive! Really!! I complained to the cashier who had taken our order, and he simply said he was sorry. New servers, what a shame. No, I said, the kitchen slowed this down excessively, too. In any case, I expected them to take the charge off, or offer us SOMETHING, but we got a limp apology, and that was it.
I am really disappointed by this. The food here is really, really good, and I've eaten a lot of Mediterranean food in my day, between Armenian spots in SoCal, Palestinian joints across Michigan, and Greektown in Chicago. But they routinely have the WORST service when the place is slightly busy- and when the place is packed, as it was today, forget it. I hate to not eat this great food again - but I won't. Franklin Street is lined with excellent joints (hit up Sandwhich immediately across the street), and I can't be bothered to give these guys more of my $.

I really wish I could give Blu more stars unfortunately I think they have a lot of improvements to make on their service before this would be appropriate. Not to be missed, Blu's food offerings were delish - well presented and prepared, flavors and seasoning was spot on. I'm confident if they train their waitstaff or work on getting more experienced folks to help teach the newer staff they will be well on their way to a 5-Star rating.
Starter wasf Conk Ceviche - was so fresh I thought they just caught it only moments before it was served. For my entree (served nearly an hour after my first course - almost lost my apetite) I had the Feature for the day - Mahi Mahi was extrodinarily prepared...key lime pie was the best i've had...what a nice finish...much needed after over 3 hour total meal time.
Attention to Service + Quality of Cuisine = Recipe for Success...(aka repeat visits by diners)...
Decent food. Nice break from what I can have delivered. But $20 plus for a six of beer? I understand convenience and proceed despite the price. One time.
OK if you need a roast pork fix and can't get to Allen & Son north of Chapel Hill. This place is leased to someone else, and they don't cook with wood any more, so maybe it shoud be called faux 'cue. (Another wood-cooker in the area is Backyard Barbecue on Hwy 55, just south of i-40.)
While the menu is great and the food is quite good (once it finally gets to your table), the super-slow service comes with a lot of attitude and is consistently poor. I've tried eating here on several occasions and varying times and always walked away annoyed. One morning it took a full ten minutes to get a cup of coffee--to go.
Location is great, particularly outdoors which isn't as noisy (overloud music) as indoors.

Cuban sandwich was priced OK but was small in size. Rice and beans with platanos sampler dinner was OK but overpriced ($10.50) for a small bowl and four small platanos.
Beer was very reasonably priced at $3.00 but wine and mixed drink menu had no prices! According to waitress, mixed drinks were $5-8 and bottles of wine $18-24 but who knows what price each item is (very odd).
