I'm extremely disappointed with the Sawmill Tap Room and its manager. We called ahead to see the NCSU game (6pm vs Liberty) and the hostess said it was on. Upon arrival, we find out it's not. Our friends, while on their way to the bar, called with the same question and the hostess responded by saying "I'm watching it right now." When we talked with the manager, she apologized for that mistake but said she "wished she could" comp us a round of drinks and that she would tell the hostess to not say that anymore. Our friends' brother called 20 minutes later only to be told that the NCSU game was on and that she was watching it. We again talked with the manager before we left, and again she apologized for the mistake but gave us some attitude. We won't be going back to this place!
I went here on a Sunday evening on my girlfriend's recommendation, and honestly I wish we hadn't it wasn't worth the headache. Our waitress took our drink orders and handed us the menus. My girlfriend who frequents the place already knew what she wanted, but for me, never being there and being a sushi lover I needed some time to thumb through all the rolls. So our waitress brings back our drinks and asks if we're ready to order, um no we're not we both have our faces still buried in the menu. About a minute later she comes back and rudely asks again if we're ready to order. I explain that I need a little while to look over the menu for what rolls I want and she walks of in a huff. About two minutes later she comes back and barks "you ready to order". At this point I had become so agitated, and felt so rushed I was ready to leave the money for the drinks and go somewhere else. Ps we were there around 7pm, they didn't close until 1030 so we weren't keeping the staff there. My girlfriend answers and once again says no, our waitress then tells us that we have five more minutes and then we need to order. By this point I didn't care about the food, all I wanted was a new waitress and the manager. Another waitress seeing our agitation began to make rounds at our table to try to smooth things over. The rude waitress would come back in a gruff every once in awhile in between, she asked if I wanted anymore sweet tea, I replied "no" and yet she still takes my glass and gets the sweet tea anyways. By the time our check came we were beyond agitated and fed up with our horrible service and asked our waitress where is the manager, she replied he's out of town. The other waitress on duty then walked up to the conversation and corrected our waitress and said he's right over there. Having lied, and been utterly rude to us for no reason all night my girlfriend went and told the manager the whole story. His reply, "I'm sorry, we've been having problems with her tonight". Really? Not that either of us were looking to get compensated for the horrible dinner we had, but everyone in that restaurants utter lack of responsibility was appalling. We will NEVER go here again, I rather eat at a generic, chain restaurant then experience their disregard for customer service ever again. Needless to say there was no tipping involved, that wasn't even a question. The sushi was average, nothing amazing. For what it's worth find your sushi elsewhere it's not worth the price to have your meal ruined by an uptight, downright rude waitress and a nonchalant manager.
We've eagerly looked forward to Ashley Christensen's (Poole's Downtown Diner) latest venture, and she has not disappointed! This well-lit corner bistro is down-home urban chic with a little nouveau-industrial flare. A long communal table runs through the center of the dining room. The energy is all about getting down to the business of seriously simple, damn good food.
Like it's sister restaurant, Poole's, Beasley's menu is chalked on a blackboard over the bar. Featured cocktails are quirky and well-blended. We tried the Big Bad Old Fashioned, made with bacon washed bourbon, maple syrup, bitters and orange peel. Just the right mix of sweet and bitter. There's an interesting handful of beers and "soda pops," as well as wines. Drinks are served in jars (even the old fashioned, in a little jelly jar), adding to the upscale, no-nonsense, down-South vibe. The quart-jars of black tea passing by were strangely beguiling.
True to its name, Beasley's Chicken + Honey offers one entree -- fried chicken. You can get a quarter chicken, light or dark meat ($7.50), or a chicken biscuit (chicken and waffles are featured late night or brunch). The half-dozen or so sides ($3.50) offered the night we dined included biscuits, macaroni & cheese and Heirloom tomatoes.
The chicken was piping hot, utterly juicy, spicy, crunchy perfection. The drizzle of honey elevated it to Southern-fried nirvana. I am already -- one day later -- craving it again. Biscuits were wedge-shaped, rich and likewise drizzled with honey. The mac & cheese custard was shard cheddar-creamy and spiked with pimentos, and the sliced giant German Johnson tomatoes were flawlessly ripe and dressed with a tangy malt mayo.
Alas, we were to stuffed to try the buttermilk cheesecake with peach jam and rhubarb compote ($5.75) -- something to go back for.
Dinner for two, two drinks each, and tip ran around $60 -- not bad for a downtown night out. My only suggestion for the folks at Beasley's is to put big rolls of paper towels on the tables to clean up your delightfully honey-sticky fingers before heading out!
A great place for picture framing in Raleigh. I found out that they have moved to the Lassiter at North Hills. Their new address is 4209-128 Lassiter Mill Rd. Raleigh NC 27609, telephone 919-787-7691. They have been framing pictures for me for years and the quality of their picture framing keeps me coming back. I am glad I found their new location at North Hills.
The summer concert series at the museum has been a good one. There have been some storms and some very hot nights but that hasn't stopped some great performances from taking place. Really enjoyed the Lucinda Williams show. She's always great and had a really fine backing band. Looking forward to the Gillian Welch show this week.
So disappointed! Can't we have a cool little music club in Hillsboro? The doors are pad locked and there's a notice on the door. No warning nothing? Way to fail Katy, Way to fail.
Avoid this theater if you don't like to sweat. They turn off the AC during the movie after you're already committed to it. By halfway through any movie, you'll be sweating. By the end, you'll be very uncomfortable and your back will be soaked.
I used to think it was just the manager saving money by cutting the AC early at the end of the day since I was catching the later shows, but after trying a couple of early ones, I found that's not the case. It was ridiculous.
The lobby area was fairly comfortable, but the theaters themselves were like saunas. At the very end of Captain America we noticed that the AC came back on, as if to cool it down again for the next crowd faking them out too.
The Bobbitt Hole is great. No better place to spend a weekend, or better yet a week with good friends camping, horseback riding & skinny dipping.
This place is like "Cheers" with a biker twist - from the endless memorabilia on the walls including those flanking the chrome logged fireplace, one a tribute to Raleigh's motorcycle legend, Ray Price & the other a tribute to America's Military Veterans, to the beer garden with the ever present scent of BBQ or burgers or something sizzling on the outdoor cooker. This is where friends come to see friends & make new ones. Great staff, great music & a great time - A kickin' bar for sure!
The City Tap is the cat's meow. It's the bee's knees. FREE live music Thursday, Friday, Saturday night and the first Sunday of every month. 10 beers on draft, over 20 brands bottled, wine, mixed drinks slammin' pannini style sandwiches.
You won't find a TV in the place, the company is so damn fine.
I love April and SIP . . . April & her staff go out of thier way to be helpful, and to educate and enlighten the customer about wine and the advantages of being ecofriendly. I drive past other wines stores to go there and will continue to do so. If you haven't tried it - do yourself a favor/flavor and do so. LSS

Dream Acts is an astonishingly complex exhibit that challenges the visitor's understanding of what a community is and can be. The artists spent about five months in the community, getting to know people, participating in activities, and giving out some camcorders.
The community is Abbey Court, Carrboro, home to migrant Latinos and Burmese refugees. Residents are exploited and suffer immense deprivations, but the artists discovered the joy and solidarity of Abbey Court residents, and that was their focus.
The quiet aesthetic themes of the exhibit are borders and barriers and keeping with that theme have erected several short walls on which they dynamically project the images of people, children playing, children hamming it up. On the walls are photographs taken against backdrops of "dreams." There is place for children to draw with chalk, just as they do at Abbey Court.
Of course, life imitates art too. Since the art exhibit residents have been more assertive about their housing rights.
One room is devoted to the paintings of a Burmese refugee, Nine Love. His paintings of life in Burma and the refugee experience are moving.
This is a MUST SEE. Dream Acts is open through July 9, 2-6pm Thursday-Saturday.
The Ban Mi was great, just enough fire to enjoy the fresh jalapenos.
If you like pimento cheese, you will love their version. Reminds you of why you love pimento cheese and wonder why you have not eaten for a while.
For the coffee, the only way it would be any better is if Dave roasted it himself.

I really wish I could give Blu more stars unfortunately I think they have a lot of improvements to make on their service before this would be appropriate. Not to be missed, Blu's food offerings were delish - well presented and prepared, flavors and seasoning was spot on. I'm confident if they train their waitstaff or work on getting more experienced folks to help teach the newer staff they will be well on their way to a 5-Star rating.
Starter wasf Conk Ceviche - was so fresh I thought they just caught it only moments before it was served. For my entree (served nearly an hour after my first course - almost lost my apetite) I had the Feature for the day - Mahi Mahi was extrodinarily prepared...key lime pie was the best i've had...what a nice finish...much needed after over 3 hour total meal time.
Attention to Service + Quality of Cuisine = Recipe for Success...(aka repeat visits by diners)...
Poor business management! Went last night for open mic night that was posted on their web site, in the INDY and every other local rag and the place was CLOSED! This makes the 2nd time I went to this place and the doors were locked. Spent nearly an hour waiting in the parking lot as 14 people came and went, all also disappointed. The least any good business owner or manager could do would be tape a hand written piece of paper to the front door saying "we are closed, no show tonight". What a waste of time, gas, and effort!
Village Deli is perfect example of Location Location Location. We all have you been to a restaurant at beach or when you visit some new town there is a restaurant that is in the heart of the action. Looks inviting then you go inside and try the food, consequently are astounded how such a pathetic tasting food is served at gas gouging prices. Village Deli is it for Wake Forest. This place is Bad. REAL BAD… Wilted lettuce in salad. Hello! What appeared to be slimy old smelly cold cuts skimpy served on a huge roll. Tasteless. If I want bread I would go to a bakery. My attempt to get fresh salad was throated with rude/nasty person at register raising her voice at me. Wow… how about if I buy you a “side” of anger management classes Village Deli ?
Furthermore, this place is not a Deli not even with the furthest stretch of the imagination… I guess the thief that owns this place must know “Deli” in the name must sell. I have been told that there were others Village Deli's that went under, because of bad food and astronomical prices (winning combination). I am sure this one in Wake Forest is not far behind. Avoid this place at all cost … Do not waste your monies on bad old food that might man you sick…
Consistently high quality. I've loved everything that I've tried. The atmosphere is relaxing.
