best steak sub this side of Philly
Food is fabulous! Desserts are heavenly! Best barteneder in town. Service needs a little help but highly recommended otherwise.
Nice variety on menu. I have tried most of the offerings and have yet to be disappointed. Most everything has been very tasty. My wife and I like to sit at the sidewalk tables outside. I am a stickler for good service and the wait staff at the gulf rim has been genuine, friendly, and not overbearing. My favorite restaurant in Hillsborough, and most of the ones downtown are very good.
My husband and I ate at the Roadhouse recently and the meal was tasty and the service was superb!! While there were the usual hiccups on opening day, they have worked out all the bugs and our dining experience was most pleasant. This restaurant is NOTHING like the old General Store Cafe; not only in decor but in particular with the food and service. They have continued not only the music nights but have continued to be involved with benefit events and recently sponsored a "Meet and greet" buffet where folks could come and meet our elected officials. They are offering 10% off your meal from now until election day if you wear your "I voted today" sticker. We love it that Greg Lewis also supports local farmers to supply some of the food used in their menus. You rock Pittsboro Roadhouse & General Store!!!
My wife and I have been to Piedmont several times since it opened, so I suppose our experiences have covered the history of the place. While we have never had a bad meal there, the service has always been the weak spot. Last night was the first time with the new chef. She had the clams with mint fettucini and I had the sausage penne. Both entrees were the best we have ever had at Piedmont. Dessert was retired beer malt ice cream over chocolate cake and a sourdough chocolate cake. Both were amazing. The only things keeping me from posting 5 stars are having to pay for the bread before the meal and a forgotten dessert spoon!
The food is good and its one of the only actual Veg places around. Because of this, you're going to end up eating there and you wont be disappointment. It's around the 3rd of 4th time back that you start loosing interest because of the small menu that seems set in stone. I just wish the menu would change with the seasons.
Amazing ice cream - seriously, the best.
One of our favorite go places on a monthly basis, Great food and large choice of Beer
Apparently the above reviewer didn't take his meds on his visit. We frequent Peony and have never received anything BUT great customer service, not to mention amazing food at a reasonable price. If he (above reviewer) was so "agitated" after just ordering drinks, they should have left, as he suggested. Rather than do so, he acted the child and really only embarrassed himself (and probably his girlfriend, the "frequent diner"). If chain restaurants are his thing (and quite frankly, judging by his rudeness, they are just right for him) then I say "Head to TGIF's, sir! Where luckily I *won't* have to dine with the likes of you!"
Always ask for the Chinese menu or they will give you the one for Americans that has the boring food. Their crispy pork intestines are superb, and the cumin lamb not far behind. You may also need to ask for less oil and less peppers in your dish, unless you like it drowned in hot chili oil and dried peppers. Other than that, the food is very tasty and authentic, and I do recommend it. Where else can you get a jellyfish appetizer and a spicy frog leg entree? It's not for the faint hearted, but it is quite good for the adventurous.
The City Tap is the cat's meow. It's the bee's knees. FREE live music Thursday, Friday, Saturday night and the first Sunday of every month. 10 beers on draft, over 20 brands bottled, wine, mixed drinks slammin' pannini style sandwiches.
You won't find a TV in the place, the company is so damn fine.
Nice Place - loved the people, But the bar tender Brandon made it a place I will go back to - perfict drinks every time.
Super great but always super loud.
Sweetest, plumpest, most juicy NC oysters, EVER! The Friday "Oyster Bar Special" has got to be the best value in town. Funky, casual vibe. Good BBQ and Certified Angus Beef ribeye steaks to satisfy even the non-seafood eaters. Fishmonger's gets two enthusiastic thumbs up from this Texan.
All fresh vegetables , a great buffet for lunch. The owner is always making new items with his own spices . His soups are unique, his tasty Chai tea is unlike anything you ever had before as he makes it from scratch. If you want something cooked your way he will do it for you. The lamb is tender and the chicken is a delight.
I also love how clean it is and that the food is fresh, cooked daily . The owner really loves food and stays away from processed ingredients.
His deserts are wonderful as are the salads.
They serve good, fresh, healthy and tasty food . I only wish I lived closer.
The most heavenly, eyeball-rolling, daily-baked pita anywhere. I come from the same part of the world as Jamil, the owner, and when I first tasted the bread that they only started producing a year ago, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Just like the bread my dear Mom used to make (psst...even better!) I would give the place 5 stars for their bread, but they have got to find a way to keep the food platters in the restaurant's display cases from looking so sloppy.
a very good and loud diner with not so fast service however they do gramdpa quility cooking if your willing to wait. My personal favorite is the huevos rancheros or wat ever
pretty good chinese buffet coming from a non-asain. However my mom did find a industrial food staple in her mouth while eating there many years ago. (not something to worry about they were very nice and refunded the meal and reassured us it would never happen again.)
Great coffee and muffins, interesting NY-esque cafe feel in historic Apex. A+.
Drove by the Capital Club 16 last week and my interest was immediately piqued - a new downtown restaurant w/ no splashy opening? I was already excited to pay this new restaurant only a stones way from my fav diner, Pooles. Although a bit perplexed by the menu initially, having recently visited Germany, I couldn't wait to try the variety of bavarian influenced dishes.
For dinner, I shared the crispy garden skillet and grilled fish of the day (catfish); both were great - very savory and fresh - who could ask for a better combination. Although we did not indulge in dessert (a decision I definately regret) judging by the assortment of treats being served to fellow patrons - it will definately be a must-do my next visit.
Poole's Diner will remain a staple - I'm thrilled to see another great addition to the every-growing assortment of 'gourmand-worthy' eateries in downtown Raleigh!
