Since before there was a North Carolina, generations have lived off the waters of the Core Sound. Their way of life, their love of the water, their determination to survive, their culture, language and cuisine has fed the spirit and body of the state from one generation to the next. Now, awash in globalized seafood, amidst shifting political and economic landscapes, fishermen with one foot in the past are charting a new course for their future, steeped in tradition while looking far ahead, certain that they will make it Big.
Part of an ongoing project by filmmaker and photographer Dan Smith to document the evolving nature of North Carolina's commercial fishing industry and the impact it is having on small coastal communities, like Harkers Island, NC.
The PreView Exhibit will be held Sunday, April 3, 2016 (7p.m. – 9p.m.) at The Barn at Fearrington Village. Local restaurants will offer samples from their menus. The depth and complexity of the characters in this production, combined with thoughtful ponderings on social and spiritual issues, makes this a truly captivating interpretation of Sweeney. Horror is there too, but it's carefully worked into a meaningful context, and somehow it comes across overall as a tale of inspiration and hope ( to the extent that any show can where most of the characters die). I saw this production with a confirmed Horror-Hater (yes, capital H's) who would normally never watch anything like Sweeney (if it weren't for our daughter being in the show) and she absolutely loved it, twice! Great job Patrick Torres and everybody else!
Fabulous!!! Buy tickets before it sells out!
Super psyched about this show!!!
