2nd Annual Gala & Art Auction

When: Sat., Oct. 12, 6:30 p.m. 2013
Durham's revered no-commission art gallery and community space is only two years old? Seriously? It's already hard to imagine downtown without The Carrack at its center. Now the gallery opens its weeklong annual fundraiser with a gala art auction featuring live jazz by the Brian Horton Quartet plus local food and an open bar by Loaf Bakery, Bull City Burger and Brewery, Wine Authorities and Cocoa Cinnamon. Silent auction bidding opens at 8 p.m. on works by many local and internationally known artists who've shown at the gallery in the past year, including elin o'Hara slavick, Heather Gordon, Jim Lee, Libby Lynn, Marc Russo, Megan Bostic, MJ Sharp, Pedro Lasch, Susan Harbage Page and sarah goetz. The works will be viewable starting Oct. 9, but they can only be bid on and purchased at the gala. Dress is "creative evening wear," which could mean fancy or fanciful. —Chris Vitiello
