Since Liberty Arts and the Cordoba Arts Center have opened at Golden Belt, the studios, galleries and parking lot between them have bustled with public events. On Thursday they kick off their second annual 12x12 Holiday Art Sale, which is greatly expanded over last year. More than 40 artists from the Golden Belt complex and elsewhere in downtown Durham have made new, affordable work specifically for this show—all measuring a foot square. Prices are $50, $100 and $200, so come with your holiday shopping list in mind.
The first hour of the event features performances by students of KidZNotes, which the event benefits. Artists are donating 12 percent of their sales to the organization, which fosters musical ability, builds community and family involvement, and strengthens values that contribute to success at school and in life. The Beethoven All Stars and the Eric Hirsh Quartet round out the bill. Thursday's event runs 5:30–7:30 p.m.; a $10 donation is requested and goes directly to KidZNotes. The art sale continues for free 6–9 p.m. on Third Friday, and through Nov. 25 in the Room 100 gallery. —Chris Vitiello
