Can John Edwards win?

John Edwards, campaigning in Ohio as the '04 vice presidential nominee, hasn't lost his touch on the stump. A major snag in his '08 campaign, though, is his 28,000-square-foot house near Chapel Hill (see below), which clashes resoundingly with his anti-poverty theme. Jay Cost of RealClearPolitics.com calls it a blunder that proves Edwards doesn't understand politics. "It's not that he is a hypocrite per se," Cost says. "His problem is his lack of political insight, which allowed him to be tagged as one."
