In concert

23 FEB 2000
Globalization is one of the curse words for the 21st century, but there's an upside to the global village. Take DJ Siraiki. Siraiki (pictured below) and a crew of Southeast Asian musicians who live in the United Kingdom mix the sitar with the turntable, hip-hop with age-old rhythms from the subcontinent and the glittering sounds of Indian cinema. In his other incarnation, Siraiki goes by the name Vivek Renjen Bald and makes films about the international musical renaissance in Britain. Check out clips of his film Mutiny and a new breed of digital DJs at Duke Coffeehouse on Friday, Feb. 25, from 10 p.m. to 2 a.m., as part of the Center for Documentary Studies' Documentary Film and Video Happening. Admission is $5. Questions? Dial 660-3663. --Cynthia Greenlee
