Galaxy Cinema—Peter Ustinov won his second best supporting actor Oscar for this 1964 heist film that inspired two generations of Mission: Impossible. Bruce Gellar, creator of the TV series, cited it as a major inspiration, while Brian De Palma mimicked its robbery sequence for the 1996 film. Ustinov plays a small-time crook who accidentally gets involved with fellow thief Maximilian Schell's plan to steal an emerald-encrusted dagger from Istanbul's Topkapi Museum. Ustinov finds himself unintentionally playing both sides as things rapidly spiral out of control. It's a witty and suspenseful caper film that the likes of Ocean's Eleven are still trying to equal. The film plays as part of the N.C. Museum of Art's "Museum on the Move" series. Museum film curator and Indy contributor Laura Boyes introduces the screening, which starts at 7:30 p.m. and costs $5.
