in merch mania

14 DEC 2005  •  by Chris Toenes
Every year, staid company Christmas parties dot the landscape like burned-out tree lights. But when Chapel Hill design biz The Merch throws their annual get-together Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Cat's Cradle starting at 10 p.m., the punch is from the raucous music and atmosphere, not some lame plastic bowl. The screen prints coming off the press from The Merch guys are crisp interpretations of favorite records and cultural detritus detailed in vibrant color. License to ill in hand, hip-hop duo Kerbloki matches up with Cyrus Hill, the one-off daredevils who portrayed tree-smokers Cypress Hill for the recent Great Cover-Up at Kings. Extra juice provided by DJs Twombly and Cannonballz. Oh, and it's all free. It is the season of giving, right?
