Throughout the entire article knocking old Gleen Beck I thought of a new title. The writer should have called it "I Am So Darn Jealous of Gleen Beck I Can't Stand It!" My Mama always told me that if you can't say anything good about anybody, don't say nothing at all." What a waste of paper and time just to make fun of someone's appearance, for heaven's sake. Does the author not have anything better to do or is he glowing in his ability to express his jealousy so eloquently. Get a life, write something "USEFUL!

What a bracing article to wake up to! As usual, Mr. Crowder expresses everything I perceive in a clear, cogent, eloquent and energetic style. I have always combed The Independent for his columns - rare now. Thanks for this one! I'm sending it to all my thinking friends.

This is so funny. Hal C is as opinionated as Glenn B. I guess they cancel each other out. It is as disingenuous to think that Hal C has anything to contribute on the left as Glenn B has to contribute on the right. I find it funny, really funny, that an opinion from the left is considered better than an opinion from the the right. To us, the most powerful group of we the people there is, who hold the balance of power in our hands, the "independents" we consider it all BS.

Actually, you couldn't be more wrong. Hillsborough has some much better sites. Beyond that, Homelessness was largely caused be de-institutionalization for the most part. No city planner would ever think this is a good idea.

The hardcore Homeless (not in the Shelter) are usually mentally ill or on drugs. It shows a lack of understanding of the issue to think that simply providing food and Shelter to only 52 of the 288 Homeless in Orange County will do anything to solve the problem.

The extra draw of people to the Park will cause an overflow problem resulting in the necessity of a Police presence to push out the non-compliant (with the IFC program) Homeless from the Park.

What a great piece of writing! What great descriptions of the cast of characters, as well as the precarious state of our democracy!

This piece should win some kind of writing award.

Reading the first few comments above, I'm amazed there are so many morons in our midst. The tea baggers are still here; pathetic manipulated minions who allow their frustrations to be guided by others, and still persist in their ignorance of how they're being used.

I'm afraid one of these idiots (Beck and his 9/12 rally seem well along the path) will lead some of these angry mobs into violence and worse.

Scary!

This is the best commentary on our times I've seen anywhere.

I'm really too close to comment, but I will anyway--just to say I agree. Thad has grown, grace is here in these songs, and everyone should hear this record.

What waste of space this article was. It did help fall asleep, so thanks - I needed the nap. I lost interest after "Barack Obama's "deep-seated hatred for white people," which presumably included the president's mother and family of origin." I guess you were referring to Obama's typical white person grandmother.

I completely agree with this summary on this book. For supposedly a graduate student, Tuscany, seems more like a silly middle-schooler. The book is worth reading if the reader enjoys old plantation life stories. But this summary is excellent and right on.

I realize I may be the only person to vote in the upcoming election for Apex Town Council, but what would it take to get some Indy endorsements over here? I mean, you cover really obscure places like Hillsborough and Pittsboro. What about the rest of the Wake County towns beyond Raleigh and Cary? Is there a cutoff that controls which towns get coverage? Maybe focusing on the core of the Triangle rather than try to get the outer fringes? Just sayin'

Wait, so you're saying the cost only went down by ~$20,000? Seems like a lot of trouble for nothing, trying to cut down the size of the party.

That story is 5 YEARS old, and our graduation rate is now what, 55%? From 67 to 55 is a 17.9% reduction.

The term “broasted” is a registered trademark of The Broaster Company of Beloit, WI. It primarily refers to chicken that has been marinated and breaded using proprietary Broaster Company ingredients, then cooked in a special Broaster Company manufactured pressure fryer.

This process produces chicken that is not only much more tender, juicy, and flavorful, but which also has lower carbs, fewer calories, and less fat. In addition to chicken, a wide ranges of other foods, including vegetables, can be pressure fried for superior taste and healthier nutritional aspects than typical deep fried foods.

Broasted foods can be found at restaurants, convenience stores, supermarkets, hospitals, schools, and other foodservice operations under the Broaster® brand name. There are over 5,000 foodservice operators across America and thousands more worldwide licensed to use this special process.

Locations in the USA serving broasted foods can be found on the store locator on Broaster’s web site: http://www.broaster.com/slocator.htm.

You seem to have done a very good job at getting all the dirt on Beck's personal character and background. Tell me, can you prove any of his facts wrong or cite what you call "irrational fears"? What is your logical argument?

I don't understand why it is so hard for the smaller counties, like mine, to see the bigger picture and begin to truly support local reentry efforts. The success of the ex-offender depends on the community working together as a team. Local Government, Human Services, ESC, Chamber, Landlords, employers just to name a few. They only ask for a second chance. The only difference in them and us is they got caught and we didn't. See the person they are today, not their five, ten, twenty year old past.

The best way to get rid of the homeless is to restore them to their original condition as regular housed people. The first step is to return them to a decent, normal but protected environment, which the Homestead Road site is. Clearly, no antisocial behavior will be tolerated there. Neighbors, just think of it as a medical facility and deal.

In order to improve the schooling, you got to increase parents involvement. If you bus the kids 20 mile away from where they live, how can you increase the parents involvement? I support more funding for schools, small neighborhood schools, where the kids are not redistricted every few years. STOP REDISTRICTING evry few years!!! Instead find out ways how to involve parents in their kids educations.
