This is Mr. Mouse's big send off as he hands the reigns of the legendary club over to Mark Connor. Mr. Mouse has been steering my favorite local watering hole for years, first as master bartender under former owner Meg Sorrell and more recently (for something like 10 years) as owner himself. This particular night of music is meant to revisit some of the Cave's musical history with Taz Halloween, Billy Sugarfix and myself (Mark Simonsen) playing early (7:00pm) and two legendary Chapel Hill bands, Zen Frisbee and Shark Quest, playing the late show. If you have ever enjoyed a beer or a night of music at the Cave, please come out this Friday September 28, 2012 in honor of Mouse Mock.

Saw the hilarious preview last night. Prepare yourself for Shakespeare as you have never seen it. Rowdy, clever, contemporary, silly, yet there is a lot there for the lover of Shakespeare as well as for those who only remember a little bit from high school. Three women, playing all the parts of all the plays. See it!
I think one of the highlights from Hopscotch 2012 was No BS! Brass. When they came on the stage, people's faces just instantly lit up. Hands went up in the air and feet just started moving. The act that went on before them was a saxophonist named Colin Stetson. He was just amazing. He played alto and bass saxophone. I can't even describe his songs. If he is playing near you, do yourself a favor and go check him out. Phil Cook of Megafaun performed on Thursday at the Fletcher Theater. His set was beautiful. His voice was very robust and thunderous, commanding the attention of the entire theater. It was a perfect way to start off my Hopscotch experience. Matthew E. White's "One Incantation Under God" was another great show that happened earlier in the festival. I think some of the players in the brass band were on stage with him as well. His music was spiritual not only in vocal content, but also in musical presence and in the energy of the performers. One of the trumpet players was wearing a pair of blue-frame sunglasses, which made the brass section look extra cool. Thank you Hopscotch for giving the world a great weekend of music. I will definitely be back for many years to come.

No BS! Brass was the most awesome show I have ever seen in my entire life. Those guys up there were trained musicians who played all of my favorite song. The solos were amazing, the tuba player in the back was rockin' and the drummer is sick to death. I am going to go to ever show that is physically possible for me to be at. I can't stress enough how incredible this band is. If you have not seen them before, rectify your situation immediately.
Marcus from Richmond. RVA All Day!!!!
There are still some good seats available for the shows in the holdover weekend (thru Sept 9)..
Jaw-dropping, unbelievable talent + wild costumes + fab music and set = fantastic reviews and a wild time. You'll really be sorry if you miss it. And if you've seen it already, you KNOW that you want to do the Time Warp again.
Return to Transylvania, prepare the transit beam.... !
