have spent many, many hundreds of dollars here over the last 10 years. The food is truly special, from the deli salads, to the condiment bar (garlic paste! Load up!) to the astonishingly good bread. But I'm not going back - ever. The service is truly atrocious. I had lunch today with my wife and son. We ordered a fadayer (pizza-like baked pie, really good) to split, while my son had souvlaki. the fadayer showed up, and - after 5 minutes of no souvlaki, we asked- what gives? The dish had been served to an adjacent table, where it had been promptly eaten! The server said he'd rush an order for us - and it took 30 MINUTES to arrive! Really!! I complained to the cashier who had taken our order, and he simply said he was sorry. New servers, what a shame. No, I said, the kitchen slowed this down excessively, too. In any case, I expected them to take the charge off, or offer us SOMETHING, but we got a limp apology, and that was it.
I am really disappointed by this. The food here is really, really good, and I've eaten a lot of Mediterranean food in my day, between Armenian spots in SoCal, Palestinian joints across Michigan, and Greektown in Chicago. But they routinely have the WORST service when the place is slightly busy- and when the place is packed, as it was today, forget it. I hate to not eat this great food again - but I won't. Franklin Street is lined with excellent joints (hit up Sandwhich immediately across the street), and I can't be bothered to give these guys more of my $.
The best food in town. Best value, choice and quality. The most unique restaurant in the area at its price range. Home made organic bread made daily says it all.
Great croque madame, great service. Nice little side spots to sit, away from the buzzing crowd that encircles this place every weekend, with good reason.
The most heavenly, eyeball-rolling, daily-baked pita anywhere. I come from the same part of the world as Jamil, the owner, and when I first tasted the bread that they only started producing a year ago, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. Just like the bread my dear Mom used to make (psst...even better!) I would give the place 5 stars for their bread, but they have got to find a way to keep the food platters in the restaurant's display cases from looking so sloppy.
Recommended.
Guglhupf is one of my all time favorite places in Durham, NC and has been for about 5+ years. Everything I've ever ordered has been amazing (especially the chocolate croissants). And the prices are very reasonable too.
I visited this bakery for the first time today. The owners are so friendly and helpful. The food is superb! I had an empanada. It is fabulous. Got several other things for later. They have many choices and the prices are very reasonable as well. I highly recommend this Bakery.
Greatest bread sinc e leaving NYC.It's really almost there if not there already. I recommend this place highly
The pastries and cakes they make are heavenly. I have used them twice for office birthdays, and the cakes are to die for. I purchased the Berlin cake, twice. The second time, it was by popular demand of my staff. They also made me some nice cookie bags as a birthday gift. And their customer service is excellent. I highly recommend this place. J.G.
I too have been charmed by the beautiful little bakeshop on Glenwood and have sampled a numerous number of their flavors including my all time fav.....the flavor of the week last week, a fresh coconut cake with a coconut buttercream and I must say I am in love! The place is gorgeous, the staff warm and welcoming and the cupcakes amazing. Eveything is made from scratch in house and you can actually watch their bakers from the veiwing window in the kitchen and see for yourself. I have worked in the food industry for years and often times people don't find cakes made from scratch as moist as those we all grew up on that were made from mixes. The difference is in the preservatives, and I would take a fresh baked cake anyday. Give them a chance.....they are doing it the right way!
The Cupcake Shoppe has been a long awaited addition to Glenwood South. The shop has a nice oldfashioned bakery feel to it. The person behind the counter is welcoming and helpful with deciding on selections, which are numerous. I have visited the cupcake shop on three different occasions and have sampled three different flavors. All three cupcakes have been dry and need more flavor. I say this as constructive criticism because I truly want the bakery to succeed. I will be back.
The almond cake we had at a company baby shower was amazing, i probabbly had 3 pieces and lost the fight to take the leftovers home.
Re: “Rise”
This place is right near my house and such a convenient location for the triangle near Target shopping center and Southpoint mall. Yummy donuts, scrumptious biscuits, at Rise you really can't go wrong! As long as you can be a little patient and wait with the others in the out the door lines you'll realize it's more than well worth it! The food is ah-mazing and the servers are always friendly and bright. Their only open till 2p so push yourself out of bed and make it over there ASAP!!
