Everyone who voted for Bruegger's "Bagels" probably also put down Pizza Hut as the best pizza they've ever had
Nice to see some old familiar faces (Fiesta Grill!) in the crowd, but I'm flatly stumped by some of the winners. Kanki? Jersey Mike's? Bruegger's?? Don't get me wrong, none of these are BAD places, but the voting wasn't for "not bad", it was for BEST of the TRIANGLE.
More than anything though, I'm utterly mystified by the absence of Maple View Farms from the Frozen Dessert category. If the gods of Olympus were going out for ice cream, they'd go for Maple View.
And growing up in Raleigh during the 60s, if there's a better burger than Char Grill, I'll have to try it for myself.
what about web tv? raleighlifestyle.tv has more videos produced than anyone in the triangle showcasing restaurant commercials fashion shows nightlife. they have only been around for 2 years and have already been invited for 2 years to interview all celebrities at the jimmy v foundation golf tornament. maybe wed tv can be a new category for next year. considering all what they do for viewers to visualize what's going on through video content I think they deserve some recognition.
Can't believe you guys forgot about webtv. RaleighLifestyle.tv has more videos created in the past two years than any other production ever brought to Raleigh. Showcasing nightclubs, restaurant commercials, fashion shows etc. Maybe next year you will consider it.
I'm still wondering how for the love of all that's holy did Jersey Mike's win Best Steak and Cheese over Anvil's Cheesesteaks. A 500+ store chain based out of NJ beat out an honest-to-God Philadelphian slinging some of the best cheesesteaks this side of Schuylkill and offering up birch beer, Utz, and Yuengling along with it. I'm from the wrong side of PA but choosing Jersey effing Mike's? That's like voters giving KFC an award for Best Fried Chicken or McDonald's an award for Best Burgers. What a letdown, Indy. In a region that's beginning to embrace being the locavore hub of North Carolina we're rewarding chain restaurants over our own small businesses. What a disgrace. These jokers should have been jettisoned or ruled ineligible as they're not a true Triangle business - not unless you want the Triangle to become Anytown USA. I can't wait until next year when maybe Outback wins Best Steak or Olive Garden wins Best Italian! HOORAY!
Marc Berger - Nah, Dos Perros winning everything is your proof of ballot stuffing. In a city brimming with excellent Mexican options, Dos Perros is some of the blandest crap I've ever had. Their guacamole may be good but their entrees are disappointing - they're a restaurant getting by on great service but suffering due to inauthentic and downright bland food. It's as if the chef decided to try a new fusion - English cuisine and Mexican cuisine...take Mexican cuisine and make it as bland as stereotypical English cuisine. In a pork tamale, the flavor of the masa shouldn't drown out the flavor of the pork, for instance.
You know the ballot box stuffers out in full effect when Fullsteam & BaDa Bar win everything...puleeease
Paul, Not saying you were using IBM funds. It was not intended to be taken literally. Smart people ALWAYS do that. :)
One small correction to the 2003 update, I was in London to lead the joint UNC-UCL Summer Seminar, not spending any IBM research funds. http://sils.unc.edu/programs/international…
Now I'm in Serbia - a sort of geek Where's Waldo. Again no IBM research funds expended.
@smalljones
lovethyneighbor, the following link is Best of the Triangle winners in the restaurant category from the past five years. You can sort it by cuisine, county, etc. Enjoy!

I can't seem to find the actual list of best restaurants in the Triangle (as opposed to articles about the party celebrating the list, etc.). Can someone post the link here? I want to know where to eat!
Angus Barn!?!?!?!?! What the???? Really?????? Overpriced bad food seems to be so popular.
I'm a little surprised that there's a restaurant category for "sushi," but not one for "southern!" Anybody else think that's a glaring omission?
Triangle Pharmacy and True Value has terrible customer service - definitely not the best at all!! They need to take a lesson from the Ace Hardware in Eastgate in Chapel Hill - now they know how to treat their customers well!
I love these lists. They give me great new places to check out every year. Quick question though, here you list REI, Great Outdoor Provision Co. and Townsend Bertram & Co. as best outdoor outfitters. I'm looking to get my hands on a Dakota 20 GPS and I'm wondering where would be the best place to check. Are these the best/only places to check?
Skin Sense?? Really??? The last time I went to the Falls of Neuse Raleigh location for a microderm I left with a swollen, bleeding cheek. Worst experience at a spa EVER! Called to complain, met with a manager who told be I would be OK. No apology, no offer to refund the money I spent on the service OR the bottle of "healing oil" I bought to try and repair the damage. Never again will I go there nor would I recommend that place to anyone.
caab, right you are. It should be Atomic Rhythm All Stars. It's been corrected.
And Fiesta Grill retains its title as Orange/Chatham's best Mexican/Latin Restaurant. YES! I love that place. My girlfriend and I probably average eating there once a week.
What is Atomic Heater? A Google search reveals nothing about this band. Is this a typo?
I was excited to find out about Li Ming's Global Market in Durham, then disappointed to see canned shark fin soup on their shelves. That's not right.
Re: “Best of the Triangle 2011: Readers' Choice poll winners and finalists”
Wow, I have heard of most of these places. I will definitely be checking some of these out fairly soon! Some of my favorites not on the list:
Dentist: www.drkgarrett.com
Restaurant: Mellow mushroom!!
