Waitress was obviously in a poor mood both times I went there. No big deal. The sushi however is not sushi at all, it's some raw fish rolled in rice. Missing is the vital vinegar/salt/sugar combination called mirin that flavors the rice. This was a huge turn-off and makes the raw fish&rice taste flat. There are plenty of places in the area that do 2for1 and make GOOD sushi.
Make certain you check your bill before you pay at this downtown Durham restaurant. It used to be one of our favorites, but 2 of the last 3 visits they have overcharged us on menu items. We like their food, but do they think we cannot read?
Scratch Piedmont off Your List
I’ve gone to Piedmont a handful of times each year since it opened and loved it. The ingredients were of the highest quality, the preparations skillful and the result was a fantastic meal.
All of that is gone. I walked in last and noticed very few familiar faces on the staff, less in the kitchen. The menu has lost focus. It’s now a hodge-podge of “hot” ingredients (ancho chiles and quinoa) and techniques. As a result it’s difficult to put together a coherent meal with all the different flavors and approaches.
The portions have become miserly. The oh-so tired “squeeze bottle” presentation has shown up.
I was served a portion of pork loin that consisted mainly of fat and connective tissue. I would never have served it to a guest in my home.
I don’t really mind that they’ve dumbed down the wine list, but the wines in the various categories don’t make a lot of sense.
More important, they don’t taste very good; at least the 3 we sampled. How hard can it be to go down to Craig and Seth’s find some great $15-$20 bottles and double the price?
Piedmont also doesn’t take Amex anymore, so be prepared if you are on a business dinner.
It would have been better if they changed the name to signal a break with the past; I wouldn’t have had such high hopes dashed.
Great variety of classes, and beautiful park. However, Sertoma makes you pay for a whole 8-week session. You can't pay for 1 class to see if you like the class. I wanted to try NIA to see if I liked it with this instructor, but they wanted me to pay $80+ dollars for the whole 8-week session when I didn't even know if I would like this class. So I went elsewhere. Bad way to do business.
small pricey portions of ok tasting yogurt in a biodegradable cup.
This show on Friday, July 16, 2010 at Walnut Creek was a head and shoulders above the show at the Greensboro Coliseum this spring, which was as bad as what I imagine a Brittany Spears show would be like. It is still not up to par compared to the four previous years. The only parts that were lacking had something to do with the last album, especially the entire last song and the contrived / pretentious video montage.
Aside from the show, I would like to NOT apologize to the group of people that I cussed out. They would be the group including the old guy who poked me in the back with his umbrella, and the lady behind him who told me to “sit down” to which I replied “$%@# OFF”. My reply was not just directed at you spokes-lady. It was directed at the whole lazy, clueless group of you who come to a blues rock concert and expect everyone in front of you to sit down so that you can see.
If you must be that lazy, then you can not be that cheap and expect satisfaction. Buy yourself a vip box on the front and quit complaining that someone in front of you is dancing to music.
Talk about a crock..best looking girls are at the new club by the airport without a doubt and you don't get forced to buy a stupid shirt every hour hour on the hour either.
For starters the food was okay, but the service left my party lacking. 20 minutes without a refill on water or a waiter checking on the table to see if anyone needed another beer or wine. We left feeling that the place would be short lived if the service would not improve.
The night was slow and there was no reason why the wait staff could not have handled the amount of tables being served. Our waiter had only four tables 2 2-tops, 1 3-top, 1 4-top.
I have had better service in busier places.
Re: “Lilly's Pizza”
Good pizza, horrible wait staff and service!
