On Wednesday, Dec. 7th at NIGHTLIGHT, Chapel Hill ex-pat Andras Fekete presents the latest edition of his ongoing hard ambiance / improv project BOAT BURNING. It's a mid-week evening of attitude adjustment, featuring profoundly damaged psychedelia for guitar, cello, tape, sax and percussion. Max Rocket opens. 9:30pm.

A great place to hole up and fill your senses. The wonderful fresh food selections, courtesy from the owners and staff, mash up of live blues and other music and the occasional dancing that this inspires helps take the weight off the day. A wonderful place to enjoy life together. Blue Note Grill rocks and they have free wi-fi too. Come enjoynus. - Mike Nicholson

Tuesday nights at the Blue Note are always on my calendar--the people, the food, and the jam. Butch is an easy going emcee, and Bill and Andrea wonderful hosts, and I got to sit in with scores of different players of varying skill levels, and it was all good. There is an easy camraderie--it doesn't take anyone new very long to feel like one of the guys or gals--I've been playing professionally for over 40 years, and it's some of the best fun I have.

I'm certainly not an unbiased observer! I've played blues for a long time, in all sorts of bands. After knocking around town for 20+ years doing that, you get to know your fellow musicians, and they become friends. Well...they all hang out at the Blue Note now, it's a friendly, neighborhood bar with some of the best BBQ and ribs you'll ever have. Butch's jam is on everyone's calendar, and you never know who will sit in. I've seen some stellar performances, and had a chance to participate in some memorable musical moments with some top flight players. Butch does a good job welcoming players of all levels.

I've played, off and on, in Durham for almost 35 years. Back in the day, if you weren't in a band, you had to sit in with people who were or play in pick-up bands at parties. Now we have the Blue Note Grill's jam MCed by Butch Haas, an even-handed assembler of Tuesday night blues groups. Some players are veterans of the area's best-known blues bands, some are solid journeymen and some may not have played in front of a crowd before. All are welcome and all are encouraged.It's like going to a friend's house to play except Bill, Andrea and their generous staff serve up food so good that you'll throw your hat in the fire. And did I mention the array of local brews on tap? The Blue Note Grill is my favorite neighborhood bar. I just wish it was in my neighborhood.

A truly modern day Juke Joint with it's decor, food, and music that covers Blues from Chicago, Delta, Piedmont, Swing, Hendrix to Stevie Ray, and did I mention the food. I have lived here my entire life and have seen the Raleigh Durham, Chapel Hill area music scene keep getting bigger with all the clubs, DPAC, the blues festival etc. The Blue Note is part of this really cool vibe that is getting better every year. Bill, Andrea and their staff work really hard and put in the love and hours to provide a great place for us to enjoy the food and music that this city offers. Superb BBQ...babyback meat falling off the bone...sorry, my mind got distracted. It is an off-the-hook blues extravaganza---a myriad of talent, both professional and amateur. Will McFarland once described it to me as the best show he didn't pay for. And, it happens every week. Just don't get there early. The ribs are for me. The supply is limited to the smoker capacity.

Joe is amazing! We live in Grace Park/Morrisville but even if we didn't, we'd drive to hear him sing the soft rock and play that amazing guitar. He next performs at Vino's on Thursday, August 30. And they have GREAT pizza and Italian fare and Thursday's is...(drum roll) $3 wine night! Can't get any better!
