Local food trucks vie for spot on Food Network series

Posted by Victoria Bouloubasis on Thu, Sep 2, 2010 at 6:28 PM

Our local love for mobile gourmet gives two of our beloved food trucks a chance to park their wheels on national television. Raleigh-based and RTP-roving Mom’s Delicious Dishes and Durham-reigning Only Burger currently compete with over 270 trucks for one of seven spots on the Food Network’s “The Great Food Truck Race,” hosted by celebrity chef Tyler Florence.
The show pits seven food trucks venerated from across the U.S. against each other in a strenuous competition of mobile culinary tasks from coast to coast, peppered with monstrous personalities, teeny budgets and reality T.V. hijinks. The winning truck receives a $50,000 cash prize at the end of the season.
“It was a great honor [to be nominated] and it would mean a lot to us to be able to represent Raleigh in the next season,” said Thao Beck of Mom’s Delicious Dishes.
It’s up to you, Triangle street food gourmands, to put Mom’s Delicious Dishes or Only Burger on the national stage. Voting started Sunday at www.foodnetwork.com/foodtrucks and ends Sept. 10. Each click counts, you can vote more than once and with each vote you enter a chance to win a trip to New York City Wine and Food Festival. Race to your keyboard and show the big Apple why we cherish Mom's spicy mahi tacos and a Southern fried egg-topped burger!
